WHEN QUALITY BECOMES A COMMITMENT

At Semi Staal, we build systems that last — quite literally. Some of our machines have been running at customer sites for over 20 years, and they are still going strong. That commits us.

When our solutions become part of a customer’s everyday operations for decades, it obligates us to more than just delivering reliability. It commits us to keep evolving; to think ahead; to take responsibility — for quality, for relationships, and for the impact we have on both people and the environment.

For more than 50 years, we have developed solutions that contribute to more efficient, safer, and more responsible operations in some of society’s most vital sectors:

  •  Hospitals
  •  Food production
  •  Pharma

Our systems break infection chains and eliminate bacteria. Cleaning is mechanical and uses environmentally friendly soaps.

But our solutions are more than that:

  • Water consumption is significantly reduced
  • Energy is used more intelligently
  • Manual handling is minimized, reducing physical strain on staff

This means our customers gain more than an efficient system.

That is precisely why ESG is close to our heart. When our solutions have a direct impact on our customers’ climate footprint and work environment, we have a duty to lead by example.

It is not enough for our products to support the green transition; our company must as well.

We believe that well-designed solutions, transparent goals, and honest commitment can make a difference — for our customers and for the society we are part of.

STEEL & MANUFACTURING WITH CARE

We primarily work in stainless steel, a material that is both durable and sustainable. It can be endlessly recycled without losing its properties and is part of global material cycles. When our systems have a documented lifespan of more than 20 years and can be rebuilt or upgraded afterwards, it is a tangible contribution to the circular economy.

Recyclability

Steel is 100% recyclable. It does not lose strength or quality, regardless of how many times it is reused. Used steel can be remelted and reused again and again without degradation. Today, over 85% of all steel worldwide is recycled; in the EU, the percentage is even higher in many sectors.

Resource Efficiency

Solar Power

All the electricity we use in our production comes from solar panels. This means our machines are manufactured using renewable energy, an important part of our effort to reduce climate impact and support a more responsible industry.

Water with Care

Every time we complete a system, we perform extensive tests using water as part of our quality control. That water is reused — test after test — until the system is ready for delivery. This minimizes both water consumption and waste in a resource-intensive process, without compromising on quality.

Long Lifespan = Low Resource Load

Steel is extremely durable and requires minimal maintenance. This means steel products often have long lifespans, like Semi Staal systems that run for up to 20 years. That reduces the need for new production and waste, making steel ideal for sustainable industrial design.

Environmental Impact of Production

It is true that producing steel is energy-intensive and CO₂-heavy, especially during primary production from iron ore. However, recycled steel — scrap-based production — has a significantly lower climate footprint, up to 80% lower. That is why it is important to choose suppliers who work with recycled steel and green energy in production.

Role in the Circular Economy

Steel is particularly well suited for circular business models, such as Semi Staal’s buy-back and refurbishment of used machines. Combined with high quality and repeat recyclability, this supports goals of less waste and better resource efficiency.
